The government is working to speed up the use of Islamic-based financing tools as it has recently formed a committee to study mechanisms of issuing sukuk, Finance Minister Mohammad Abu Hammour said Saturday.
The government is working to speed up the use of Islamic-based financing tools as it has recently formed a committee to study mechanisms of issuing sukuk, Finance Minister Mohammad Abu Hammour said Saturday. In a statement to The Jordan Times, the official said the government is serious about using Islamic sukuk to provide funds for carrying out vital and top priority projects. He indicated that a government committee was formed recently to study legislative issues for issuing sukuk. The pane?is headed by minister of awqaf and Islamic affairs and includes the minister of justice, who is the committee deputy chairman, and deputy governor of the Central Bank of Jordan in addition to several officials from the finance ministry as members. The committee will be working on studying the mechanism of issuing Islamic sukuk including financial, legal and technical matters, he noted, adding that the panel, which can take advise of experts and specialists in this field, will also examine mechanisms that?go in line with Sharia and Jordanian legislations.
